4 Benefits Of Reading Goal Setting Articles
Filed under: Goal Setting; Tagged as: Goal, Goal Setting, Goal Setting Articles, Personality Development, self improvement, SuccessNo CommentsDifferent people read goal-setting articles for different reasons. Some may need to reorganize their lives and they read such articles to help them go on with life. Others may plan to achieve a higher degree of success at the work place and therefore look for such articles. Some may feel that their outlook towards life needs a reformation and they read goal setting articles to help turn their lives around. So, different people read goal setting articles for different reasons but they help them all find their way, no doubt. Goal setting articles can help you with these factors of your life:
1. The impersonal and objective attitude of a goal setting article can be a blessing to the reader. Many people refrain from attending seminars or counseling classes because they often fear that the speaker may strip them of their pride. Very often we see people from the audience verbally lashing out at the speaker because of something that he may have said to hurt them. This normally comes because the speaker has in fact hit the nail right on the head, and nobody likes hearing about their weaknesses do they? Well, when you read an article on goal setting, you may feel the same pinch, but the fact that you have felt it from a piece of paper helps you control your anger and give the writing some serious thought. However, you need a lot of character to let a goal setting article help you. A speaker may convince you to stay back in the seminar and hear him out, but an article cannot stop you from throwing it away!
2. Easy access to the information. When you attend a seminar that you just love, there is nothing that you could go back to; to refresh your emotions and thoughts on the subject except to wait for the next time the speaker holds a seminar which may be weeks or months away. With an article however, you can re read it as many times as you would love to. Another aspect is that on online articles on goal setting over the internet. You can re read web pages and you can also save them on your PC for further reference.
3. The monetary aspect. Goal setting seminars can cost you a lot of money to attend, except when it is at a church. An article on the other hand, is usually free for all to access, unless it is a book we are talking about.
4. The objective aspect. We are often overcome by the attitude of others at seminars. We clap when the crowd claps their hands, even if we have not truly understood the message. An article on the other hand, helps you really understand the topic at your own pace, without distraction and influence from the environment. -

“Are you equating dreams with goals or do you set goals to get to your dream?” A friend asked me this question recently.
That is a good question. I have known some dynamic clients who are stubborn and never give up. They definitely dream and have a vision. In order to help you identify the difference between a dream, vision, and a goal, listed below are 8 steps to take to achieve your goals.
1. Dream or visualize your goal.
Here are some ways dreaming and visualization work: 1) Entrepreneurs can dream and visualize their goals, 2) Corporate goals generally begin with visualization and they can see the end result of their project and know what it will look like, and 3) Personal goals can be all of the above. For example, if the individual wants a Ferrari he will begin thinking about the car, then dreaming about it such as its color, model, fun to drive, etc. If the person is asked to do a project he will visualize a plan of action to finish the project. There was no dream involved as someone else created the concept.
2. Have a solid, clear picture in your mind of your goal.
Before you can write down a plan of action you should be able to visualize the end result in your mind and then it makes it easier to set up a plan to achieve the goal. It is easier to accomplish if you have a solid picture of it in your mind.
3. Develop your goal/plan.
You nurture the dream until it has real meaning for you. For example for me I had a dream to have a Writers’ Retreat in the Sonoma County Wine Country. Up to this point there was nothing, no plan in place and no specific people in mind. Then I began dreaming. I could visualize 10 writers sitting in the conference room creating their writing plan. I SAW the redwood trees, rustic cottages, and people mingling outside in the garden. It was an awesome visualization and dream. I even created a Visualization Board.
4. Set up a date (target date) to complete your goal.
Decide on a date to achieve your goal. Give yourself as much time as you feel is needed to accomplish your goal.
5. Write down a plan of action based on your target date.
It’s the baby steps it takes to finish the goal. Identify each task needed to complete your goal. It could be phone calling, sending out notices, marketing, Teleseminars, finding a hotel for your event, research, etc. You may have to adjust the target date if the tasks involved will take more time than anticipated. If your goal will take more than six months it is recommended that you have sub-goals that you can finish every quarter so it makes is easier to finish your goal and you won’t lose interest.
6. If you missed your goal, reset the target date and continue until you reach your goal.
Most important: As long as you still believe in the goal you keep on going and never give up. You need to feel PASSION for your dream or it will be difficult to finish. One client who sets 100 goals a year and accomplishes 90% of them told me that she just couldn’t stop. She is obsessed with completing her goals, however she calls them dreams. She is driven. How about you?
7. Find a mentor or buddy that will support you.
This can give you the boost you need in the tough times and be your motivator to help keep you going. Goal setting is not for the timid. A lot of work is involved. A huge commitment is needed on your part. Ignore the naysayer and find those positive people in your life that believe in you and will help you stay focused.
8. Take action and follow your plan.
There is only one person that can complete your goal, YOU! You must take action, overcome obstacles, and follow through on all your action steps. YOU are the Action Task Achiever, only YOU can make your dreams come true. That’s what I like about my dynamic clients. I give them the information they need and they do it! They are motivated. Do you have the passion for your dream? Can you visualize your goal? Do you have a buddy? Are you ready to create a plan of action? If you answered yes, to these questions then congratulations you are ready. Have fun and enjoy the journey. -

Why Does Goal Setting Work?
Filed under: Goal Setting; Tagged as: Goal Setting, Personal Development, self improvement, Setting Goals, SuccessNo CommentsIt seems like every personal development coach has something to say about goal setting. It seems as though every seminar you attend, some goal setting seems to be sprinkled in to the day. So, why is goal setting so important, and why does it work?
We start life with high hopes. We all do. However, at the end, only a handful will look upon there lives with contentment. So few realize an amazing life, because of feelings of being limited. These feelings of being limited are a big concern.
If we look at life, we see that out of 100 people interviewed at a 25, all with high hopes, only 5 will be financially independent. And this does not just apply to money, as these 5 people generally live the life they want. So many don’t however.
There is another interesting correlation, and I think they are linked. Only 4-7 people out of 100 set goals. And it is amazing to see, because if you ask those 5 people in the 100, they do one thing in common and that is set goals.
If we consider that 7 people will set goals, and only 5 achieve then that says to us that the other 2 who failed, even though they set goals, is because of setting a goal they are not passionate about achieving. The truth is that goal setting does work, and has worked for all people since the beginning of time.
If you consider for a moment life as a goal setter, and life as a drifting purposeless endeavor, you can see that without a goal how will we get anywhere? Goal setting works because it causes us to focus on what we want. It is like watching television. While watching television, you can get so absorbed into the TV, that the actual TV set disappears!
That focus in our goals gives us a direction. It focuses our minds, and we can look at how we can make those goals reality. And this process can be simple, smart or full of so many components that it is hard to move forward.
By far the biggest achievers are goal setters. They think about what they want, and then move forward to make those goals reality. It is simplicity in itself, and here is how it works. We are goal orientated beings. We feel hungry, and we go and get food. We feel like going on vacation, and take steps to get there.
Goal setting can be viewed in such light, and can really transform your life. If you let it. So what is one goal that you really want to achieve? Go do it, and then tell me about it. -

Public Sector Organization – Goal Setting Intervention
Filed under: Goal Setting; Tagged as: goal planning, Goal Setting, public sector organisation, self improvementNo CommentsMany scholar articles and government websites have been talking about goal setting intervention in different public sector organizations as a crucial matter recently. Government and state personal agencies are concerned with the high retirement rates and are getting prepared for the highly developed twenty first century and are developing and recruiting potential workforce.
The major focus of this goal setting intervention in different pubic sector organizations is ensuring that the organization operates effectively and competitively irrespective of change of leaders and heads. This usually happens in social organizations where client growth is the main aim. This involves systematically identifying, developing and assessing leadership in an organization in order to make sure that all the important positions in the organization are always kept filled. Planning a goal setting intervention, along with managerial decisions, resource allocations and daily operations helps establish improved performance targets that such agencies offer.
The initial step in such an intervention is getting to know the customer’s feelings. This is the most vital factor that is responsible for driving the goal setting intervention into action with performance measurement in government agencies and establishments.
The biggest question being asked today is whether goal setting intervention can apply to even federal government agencies. As surprising as it is, it actually does cover the federal government. As a matter of fact, as of today, 300 million customers claim satisfaction because of it. All the agencies that are part of a public sector organization need to have their goals set via the President’s Executive Order 12862, also called the “Setting Customer Service Standard” that requires all agencies to provide customer service equaling all business quality processes.
But the problems that the federal government has to face are not restricted to the public sector alone. It is, in fact, a mixture of both, which makes it all the more harder to achieve the fundamental performance improvements than before.
There are a few factors that affect the management efforts and the goal setting intervention. Some of the vital ones are stakeholders concerns, corporate resources and customer needs. Here are some important success factors used in goal setting when it comes to public organizations:
• The stakeholders must be involved in the process so that the program can improve effectively.
• The performance should be closely observed and measured and should be used as a yardstick to compare other business needs and organization performances.
• The organization’s objectives should be systematically linked to the improvement goals as well as the core business culture. This helps achieve a clear picture of the outcomes that need to be brought about at different milestones.
• Educational training programs must support all daily decision making activities and improve goals at operational level.
• The goals that are set must be realistic and ambitious and should form the basis for the mission, current performance levels and customer needs that can challenge the entire organization into achieving great improvements in their performance.
Goal setting intervention when it comes to public sector organizations should not be treated lightly and needs careful consideration. To prevent all possible negative consequences it is necessary that the performance goals be kept positive and realistic while simultaneously should not be set too modestly as this can cause the organization to find it difficult to move out of the current work process that will become impossible to shake out later on, thereby cutting down on the productivity. -

Goal Setting – 3 Attributes Of An Effective Goal
Filed under: Goal Setting; Tagged as: attributes of a good goal, Goal Setting, good goals, self improvementNo CommentsNow, psychologists backing this theory affirm that individuals are motivated to attain goals. This goal setting theory claims that individuals act in a certain way because they concentrate on reaching goals, which they have unknowingly or knowingly, fixed for themselves. This goal setting theory says individuals labor towards goals that include the following.
Three Attributes Of Goals
a. Clear
Individuals should be aware of what they require to achieve goals. Whether you choose between coffee and water or it is a decision regarding career options, individuals act to attain a goal since they are aware of it. This implies that individuals should be conscious of what they require prior to deciding on the necessary steps to take to arrive at the goal.
b. Challenging
Goals established by individuals should be challenging enough for them to give their best. Tedium is man’s least preferred sentiment. Individuals facing challenging goals tend to put in increased efforts to attain the objective. There is an increased feeling of satisfaction, when individuals challenge themselves to perform a certain task.
c. Achievable
Challenges excite people. On the other hand, they should be conscious of the fact that a fixed goal is an attainable task. Individuals, in their subconscious minds can differentiate between self-delusion and a goal.
Feedback is an important element of Goal Setting Theory. This theory says individuals require feedback so as to persist in following a definite goal. Individuals must be able to identify the development made towards reaching that goal. Regardless of the source of feedback, whether from themselves or others, individuals should be aware of the progress.
Goal Setting Theory involves two kinds of goals:
a. Directional
Where this kind of a goal is concerned, individuals put in an attempt to achieve a definite goal not knowing the key steps required for attaining the goal. Directional goals are very inspiring because they seem to be easily reachable. It involves establishing a goal and then modifying our actions to get to the goal.
b. Accuracy goal
Now, this kind of goal requires a person to establish a goal and then exploring all the possible avenues that he needs to take to realize that goal. People fixing this kind of a goal soon recognize that they have very slight prospects of actually making to the proposed goal thereby charting different courses to advance them closer to the goal. Accuracy goal is typified by prudent preparation. Nevertheless, it is known that it is not possible for us to map out our futures precisely and a departure from the original plan is normal. Goal Setting Theory says that individuals who lay down precise goals usually attempt to reduce variation as any unintentional variation is considered a misuse of funds.
Goal setting theory enables individuals to comprehend just how to achieve things they desire in life. This theory states every individual lays down goals. It simply means that it is the kind of goal, which is fixed that ascertains the achievement of a person. -

Your mind is the single most effective and essential tool to craft and program your thoughts, aspirations and goals. Consequently, when your goals are properly planned out, it will be very much easier to shape and design the life you want and ultimately the success you strive to attain. Yet, many people still do not even use their minds to set goals, let along take effective actions to achieve their goals.I am highlighting the mistakes of not programming your mind to set goals because your mind triggers and identifies better when you are alerted to the detrimental effects of not doing something useful and essential. For example, when a student knows that she will not score well or fail in her examination if she does not study, she will work towards studying hard and smart to ace her examinations so as to avoid failure. The same concept applies here: when your mind is exposed to the negative effects of not setting goals, you will be alerted to the importance of setting goals. Therefore, it is very important to know the worst mistakes you will make if you choose to ignore the significance of programming your brain to set goals and why these mistakes can be very costly to your quest for wealth and success. When you do not set goals, you are clearly not identifying the purpose or reasons why you do certain tasks or things. You will probably just do those things for the sake of getting the job done and not take pride and enjoyment in doing them. You will have no sense of fulfilment and everything you do will seem like a hectic chore or burden. This will in turn blur your mental vision and cause you to have no proper direction to steer towards your path to success. You will not know exactly where you intend to head, which proper ways you should take to reach there or how you can remain in the proper path.Having no purpose or no proper direction is just the start of the horrendous journey to failure when you do not set goals. When you have no purpose or proper direction, this will lead your mind to be unfocused. An unfocused mind will move in too many directions, cause you to do too many things without actually completing all of them and steer you away from your intended purpose. You will then end up choosing and taking the hardest paths and performing the most ineffective actions that will in turn churn out the most undesirable results. However, in my opinion, the most detrimental effect of not setting goals would be that it leads to procrastination. As you probably know, procrastination is the act of putting off the things that you should be doing to a later time or date. More often than not, you will end up not doing the things that you put off for too long. And not setting targeted goals to achieve on targeted dates will only increase your rate of procrastination and in turn lead you to failure. Now that you have realised the negative effects of not programming your mind to set goals, how will you program your mind to craft a proper and effective goal-setting plan to achieve the success you want?

Students’ Personal Career Development Counseling – Its Benefits And Importance
Filed under: Goal Setting; Tagged as: career development counselling, career development counselling benefits, self improvementNo CommentsIt has become the practice for high schools in United States to observe Career Days for senior students for many decades now. On this day high school students are introduced to various careers open to them by local business professionals in the school. However, these days are proving insufficient to enable the students of high school to plan their future. That is why most middle-aged adults and youngsters seek the personal guidance of coaches in career development.
Personal coaches in the field of career development offer a very essential service to people who are late planners of their careers. A lot remains to be done to help the youngsters in career development. When the best career options are enumerated for students of high schools, it helps them develop a better understanding of the careers they would prefer, resulting in more efficient planning and more enrollments in colleges leading to a more productive future society.
For many high schools, the practice of a Career Day has taken the form of a whole Career Week to tackle these issues. A couple of days in this week are utilized to introduce the seniors to various career pathways by seasoned community professionals. The assessments resembling those by personal coaches in career development are taken up during the remaining week.
These assessments help the students of high school to become aware of their strengths and weaknesses and also to explore where their values and interests lie. These assessments are then fed to a computer system. The system generates a report outlining the best career options for that particular student. The students then go through further training via Handbook of the Occupational Outlook.
The Handbook of Occupational Outlook is a top rated career development tool for personal career development in the arsenal of high school. The Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics of the United States has put this publication in electronic form as well as in the book form. This enables the students to access valuable information about details of career, industry outlooks and job prospects for the future, the education required and average salaries.
When these assessments of career development of high school students are over, they undergo interviews with either the counselor of the high school or the coach of career development. These students are led through the interviews to explore fully the career options, have discussions with the coaches and reach decisions about the field in which they want to make their careers. Then several resources are provided to the student of the high school to give him a start on his career development path.
Another aspect of activities of career development is that the counselors or the coaches of personal career development visit the senior classrooms and take important sessions on goal setting and its importance in career development. These students get resources to set their goals practically and begin to pen down their plan for personal career development.
Although personal career development concept and its importance is not new for students of high schools, plans for personal career development education are being put into place by schools only now. These initiatives will prepare more and more students of high schools to begin careers or education as soon as they finish high school, thereby leading to a more productive future society. -

Are Dreams and Goals the Same Thing?
Filed under: Goal Setting; Tagged as: Achievment, Business, Dreams, Goal Setting, Goals, Happiness, Motivation, Personal Development, Personal Growth, Self Confidence, Self Esteem, Self Help, self improvement, Self-growth, WomenNo Comments“My dream is to be independently wealthy.”
“I’m going to find the man of my dreams.”
“My dream car is a Lexus ES-300.”
“I visited Newport Beach and saw my dream house!”
How many times have you heard similar statements from friends? And maybe you’ve even voiced a few wonderful ‘dreams’ yourself. (I know I have!) It’s great to have dreams!
According to millionaire author, Michael Masterson, any dream can become a goal if it meets the following criteria:
It must be Specific: Being independently wealthy is a dream. Developing a $3 million net worth in 5 years is a goal.
It must be Actionable: Winning the lottery is a dream. Building a successful business is a goal.
It must be Time-Oriented: “I’m going to be rich someday” is a dream. “I’m going to develop a $3 million net worth in five years is a goal.
It must be Realistic: Developing a $3 million net worth in five years is reasonable (with a great action plan). Developing a $3 million net worth in 3 months is not. Although winning the lottery is possible, it is not at all realistic. (Statistically, your odds of being struck by lightening are greater than your chance of winning the lottery.)
Dreaming feels good – and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with dreaming. But if you’d like to ‘live your dream’ it MUST be turned into a goal. Without goals, dreams seldom become reality.
A Harvard Business School study followed the financial status of a group of students 10 years after their graduation and found that:
- As many as 27 percent needed financial assistance.
- 60 percent were living paycheck to paycheck.
- Only 10 percent were living comfortably.
- A mere 3 percent of them were financially independent.
The study also found these interesting goal setting correlations:
- The 27 percent that needed financial assistance never set goals for themselves.
- The 10 percent that were living comfortably only had general goals.
- The 3 percent that were financially independent had not only written out their goals – they also outlined and followed the steps required to reach those goals.
Even with a Harvard Business School degree, 97% were not wealthy. The critical difference was goal setting. To learn more about this click here http://www.abundance-of-wealth.cup-of-life.com/Wealth-Creation.html .
So hold on to your dreams! Dreams are a wonderful thing. But if you’d like to turn any of those dreams into reality, you must first turn the dream into a goal.
