    Living a balanced life is the key to personal goal setting success and your career success in sales. What does it mean to live a balanced life? Balanced living starts by setting goals in all areas of your life. Goal setting has implications far beyond your career goals. In fact, people who set only business related goals decrease their odds of having a well balanced, happy life and achieving their business goals.
    Let’s start by measuring your life satisfaction and to identify areas that might benefit from personal goal setting.
    On a piece of paper, draw a large circle. In the center of the circle, draw a very small circle. Next, draw 6 straight lines from the small circle to the large circle, like spokes on a bicycle wheel.
    On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 is the lowest and 10 the highest) ask yourself how satisfied you are with your current position in regards to; financial and career, social and cultural, spiritual and ethical, family and home, mental and educational and physical and health.
    Take into account the following personal goal setting issues:
    Financial and Career
    Do you enjoy your work? Do you feel you are making a contribution to society? Are you living up to your potential? Have you achieved a satisfactory standard of living?
    Social and Cultural
    Does your circle of friends enhance your life and contribute to your sense of contentment and well-being? Is there at least one other person you can discuss important life issues with? Do you have interests outside of your career and family (sports, theater, outdoor events)?
    Spiritual and Ethical
    Have you identified your specific personal values? Are you living up to those personal values? Is religion important to you? If so, are you happy with the way you are practicing your religion? If its not, what is your relationship with a higher power or with the universe in general?
    Family and Home
    Have you realized your dream in terms of your home and family relationships?
    Mental and Educational
    Did you accomplish the educational goals you set for yourself? Are you still growing and learning? Do you invest in your continuing education on a regular basis?
    Physical and Health
    Are you satisfied with your current level of physical health? Are you living up to your own standards in terms of diet and exercise? Are you fit enough to do the things you want to do?
    Next record your answers by putting a mark on each spoke under the respective categories. Assign the innermost notch on the wheel a value of one, and the outer ring a value of ten. After you have marked all of the spokes, connect your marks, creating your own “wheel.” Congratulations to those whose wheel is round and hugs the outer edge of the figure. Chances are that you are reasonably happy and are living a fairly balanced life. However, any other shaped/configured wheel suggests room for growth.
    For example, if your circle is lopsided, the low score(s) identify the area(s) in which you need to focus your personal goal-setting efforts. If your wheel is round but small, that’s okay. Your life is in balance you just need to set goals in all areas of your life in order to expand your wheel and achieve greater general satisfaction.
    Repeat this process on a regular basis until your wheel meets your own standard of success. However, don’t stop there. Life doesn’t stand still. If you not moving forward then you’re loosing ground. Stretch your personal goal setting. Get out of your comfort zone and set new and challenging goals.

    Why do we need goals to achieve anything in our life? The answer is as simple as allowing our imagination to pave the way of our success. What do I mean by that? Simply put, our imagination needs to have an end result in order for us to be able to imagine ways to get to that result. Let’s do a simple exercise. In your mind try to trace the route of getting somewhere, but do not think of a specific destination. Imagine different streets you might take, or different roads. Having trouble? Your mind needs that destination if you are going to think of how to get there, doesn’t it? Otherwise there are simply too many options to choose from, your mind can’t sort through all of them, it needs to choose one. Goals work very similarly. In order for us to accomplish anything, first we need to envision what is it we want to accomplish, before we can commit to action.
    So why is it that it is so hard for us to both set goals and stick to them until we accomplish them? A couple of the biggest reasons are the way we set goals and the way we think about them. This can fall into two categories: we might be setting goals that are unrealistic, or we start thinking of goals as set in stone. Either way, when we do not accomplish them right away we get disappointed and end up abandoning them all together.
    To help us make goals that are both realistic and easy to achieve here are a few tips:
    - We need to be specific about the goal that we are setting. So “I want to loose 30 pounds” is better then “I want to loose weight”.
    - Second, we need to know the time frame of our goal. So if it is something like “I want to develop a successful consulting business”, and we know that this will not happen right away, we should put it in the long term goal category.
    - If our goal is big like the developing a successful business example, we also need to break it down into smaller, shorter term goals that you will accomplish first before getting to the final destination. Like “I want to make a business plan for my new venture” or “I want to find partners that will help me accomplish what I set out to do”.
    - We also need to know when we will achieve this goal. So if we look at the business example, it can be something like “I will have a successful business when I will be able to cover all my living expenses from the profits of the business, while working only 30 hours per week” It is something very precise that will signal to us that we have achieved a desired goal.
    - Here are also other questions we should ask our selves when setting a goal. Is your goal achievable and realistic? Is the time frame for achieving your goal acceptable to you? Are the costs and consequences of achieving your goal acceptable? Do you have all the resources you need to achieve your goal and do you know where to get them if you do not?
    Another very important point about goal setting is that goals are meant to be constantly adjusted! If you think of goals as a guideline that highly depends on the circumstances surrounding it, you are on the right track. Situations in our lives change all the time. This is the primary reason why we need to constantly adjust our goal to make them fit into the new situations life presents to us. All we really have to do is monitor how we are doing with our goals from time to time. Make sure that these goals still correspond to our desires, and if they no longer do, adjust them or set new ones.

    This exercise will only take you 5-10 minutes. Who doesn’t have that amount of time, if it means getting to where you want to be 50% faster?
    Grab a pen and paper, or open a new file in your technology device to answer the following questions:
    - What does success with women and dating mean to me?
    - How will I feel when I get there?
    - How will I feel if I don’t work out this area of my life and don’t get what I want?
    - On a scale of 1-10, how committed am I to working on this?
    Now that you’re in the right frame of mind, it’s time to get you started on the 6-Step Personal Goal Setting Formula:
    STEP 1: Decide Exactly What You Want
    If you have vague goals, then you will get vague results. The clearer you can get this in your mind, the better your results will be. Ask yourself, “What am I actually trying to achieve with all this?”
    Picture it and describe it. Write down:
    - How you would feel if you had this area of your life handled.
    - What your life would be like.
    - How you would be thinking about yourself.
    - How you would behave around women and people.
    - What your relationship status would be – would you rather be dating new women all the time, having short-term relationships, long-term relationships, or even married?
    Is it starting to become clearer?
    STEP 2: Set a Time Limit to Achieve Your Goals
    Have you ever been given a deadline to complete something, say at school or work? Maybe at first you thought you’d never have it completed on time.
    But you managed to achieve the goal within the specified time frame. Why?
    Because you focused on the achievement of the goal. It had to be done, so you did it.
    In STEP 4 you will be able to set time limits to your various mini-goals.
    Some of your goals will be achieved quickly; others may take months or even years depending on how much effort you put in.
    One of the rewarding parts of personal goal setting is seeing the goals turn into reality. Put ‘time pressure’ on things and you’ll be amazed what happens.
    STEP 3: Determine What is Required to Achieve Your Goals
    Create a list of all the things you will need to do and add to the list as you go. You should look at your list at least once a week and see how you are tracking.
    Here are some examples that may apply to your list, if you’re looking to get better with women & dating:
    - Buy new bed sheets.
    - Practice vibing with people.
    - Buy new shirt from ______ store.
    - Buy new cologne from _________.
    - Remember to use proper mindsets when at the supermarket.
    - Start greeting people with a more confident hello.
    STEP 4: Organize Your List into a Plan, With Priorities
    If we were to use the six items above to make a plan with priorities, what would be their order?
    I’d suggest something like this:
    1. Remember to use proper mindsets when at the supermarket.
    2. Start greeting people with a more confident hello.
    3. Practice vibing with people.
    The final three items can go in any order you deem necessary.
    The most important point to remember when working on personal goal setting in this area, is: Work on YOU and your personality before you work on external or material things.
    4. Buy new shirt from ______ store.
    5. Buy new cologne from _________.
    6. Buy new bed sheets.
    STEP 5: Take Action on Your Plan
    It’s all well and good to get enthusiastic about personal goal setting now that you have a plan, but you need to use it in order for it to have an effect.
    Choose a convenient time to review your plan regularly. For example: After eating dinner or while brushing your teeth before bed. This is your chance to get focused and take action to accelerate your progress toward total success with women & dating.
    Don’t waste ANY more time living a style of life that you’re unhappy with.
    STEP 6: Move Closer to Success Each Day
    What are some of your current habits?
    Maybe you’re one of those people who like to read before going to bed. Maybe you like to exercise at least twice a week. Whatever your habits, we all have them and STEP 6 is designed to help you get into the habit of working on your goals.
    Generally speaking, it will take 3-6 weeks for most people to form a habit. However, a person’s motivation and dedication to achieving their goals will have a major influence on the time it takes.
